SHSAT (Specialized High Schools Admissions Test)

Traditionally, schools requiring this exam specialized in math, science and/or engineering.  However, schools with other specialties now require this test for admission.  These schools are specialized high schools that have an academic emphasis. 

The schools that currently require the SSHSAT exam for admittance are:

          (Focus: science & engineering)
• Brooklyn Technical High School
          (Focus: engineering, mathematics and science)
• Brooklyn Latin School
          (Focus: humanities & the classics)
• Stuyvesant High School
          (Focus: mathematics & science)
• Bronx School of Science
          (Focus: mathematics & science)
• High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College
          (Focus: mathematics, science & engineering)
• High School of American Studies at Lehman College
          (Focus: American History)
• Queens High School for the Sciences at York College
          (Focus: mathematics & science)

The SHSAT exam is unique in its topics and timing structure.  Our course familiarizes students to the makeup of the exam through practice exercises, skill building exercises and test taking strategies.  The types of questions presented on this exam are generally something your child has not deal with in school; therefore it is one of the goals of the course to familiarize your child with the questions and how to attack the questions successfully.  Students will take a three hour diagnostic exam which will provide your child’s teachers, you and your child with a comprehensive view of your child’s strengths and areas that require additional attention.  Aside from teaching vital skills and imparting effective strategies an additional and equally important goal is to build each student’s confidence. It is imperative for students to sit for the SHSAT feeling confident and assured.
